Moving in Bali When the Dates Refuse to Line Up
The old place needs its keys back on Friday. The new one will be ready 'next week'. Moving in Bali gets easier when every box does not have to travel with you through that gap. Temporary storage can give your belongings a base while you sort out your own.
Pack for the gap, not just the destination
Set aside what you need for the first few nights: clothes, medication, documents, chargers and whatever lets you work or get the children settled. Keep that with you rather than in a carton labelled 'miscellaneous'.
Then make an inventory of the larger belongings. Photos and measurements help the storage team recommend a unit and assess what transport is needed.
A little organisation pays off on moving day
- Label boxes by room and contents, not just a number.
- Keep a matching list and photos on your phone.
- Photograph furniture condition before loading.
- Put dismantled furniture fixings in labelled bags with the matching piece.
- Pack fabrics, furniture and appliances clean and thoroughly dry.
Tell the team about the awkward bits
A narrow gate, a steep stairway or a sofa that only just made it in last time is useful information. Share both addresses, access restrictions, parking and the larger measurements before agreeing on a pickup.
Larger units are at Kuta HQ. If dropping goods at Canggu or Sanur would help, discuss a transfer first. Confirm the transport quote, handover contact and where collection will take place.
Store for how you will unpack
Keep boxes you may need during the gap near the front. A little retrieval space can be worth more than fitting everything into the smallest possible unit.
Think about the return trip too. Would a single delivery work, or will some pieces need to wait while rooms are finished? Agree any delivery and handling separately from the storage rental.
When 'next week' becomes another week
Ask about extensions before you start. If the move-in date slips, contact the team before the current end date and confirm the new period and charge. The previous payment does not automatically cover an extra month.
You cannot control every handover date, but you can have a clear plan for your things. Send your inventory and dates in WhatsApp, and wait for confirmation before treating a unit or moving service as booked.
